Mr. Nyberg serves on Governor Snyder’s executive team as Deputy Legal Counsel and as Director of the Governor’s Northern Michigan Office, based in Marquette. Dave joined Snyder’s team in August, 2012 and took on responsibilities in the Governor’s Legal Division in 2014, including American Indian, gaming, and natural resource legal matters and liaison duties with tribal governments.
A strong affinity for his native Upper Peninsula brought Dave to Marquette in 2011 after serving in various professional capacities at the state’s capital, including service as legislative affairs director for the state’s largest conservation organization and as legislative assistant to the Speaker of the Michigan House of Representatives. For a brief period prior to joining the Snyder Administration, Dave owned and operated 3rd Coast Strategies, LLC, a strategic consulting practice serving clients such as Trout Unlimited’s Bristol Bay campaign, National Wildlife Federation, and Plum Creek Timber Company.
Dave earned his B.A. at Michigan State University, J.D. at Michigan State University College of Law, and is a graduate of the Michigan Political Leadership Program at MSU’s Institute for Public Policy and Social Research. He is a member of the of the State Bar of Michigan, Marquette County Bar Association, Fred Waara Chapter of Trout Unlimited, Michigan United Conservation Clubs, Escanaba River Association, Noquemanon Skijor Club, Economic Club of Marquette County, and serves on the Board of Directors for 40 Below Young Professionals of Marquette County. Dave lives in Skandia with his wife, Tracy, daughters, Hazel (3) and Harriet (8 months), and canine kids, Thule and Koppar.
